This weeks mix comes from Mel Richards who has experienced the Iowa scene from all angles and continues to be a driving force whether it be center stage, behind the scenes, or in front of the speakers raging it up with the rest of the party goers. His official bio reads like this:
“Originally hailing from Bootycall 9 a planet roughly one squadillion miles from the crab scratch nebula – Mel Richards now lives in exile on planet earth after the player hater wars of 2028 left his planet in shambles.”
Which should give you an idea of the kind of over the top and out of this world sound that he brings. In his Audiodope mixtape “Sexy” you should expect nothing less than masterful mixing, suberb song selection, and of course an all out audio assault. All alliteration aside (Oops, I did it again), Mel knows his genre front to back, and has the serious turntable skills to back it up. Plenty of new style fidget sounds, along with several throwback jams, will have you bobbing your head the whole way through.
Speaking of his event promotions, Mel and the rest of the team at Digital-Promotions are throwing what will be one of the biggest Halloween ragers in Iowa City on October 30 at The Industry (formerly the Q Bar). Trying something new this week. Tunnel Vision Vol. 1 - Trance mix by Stevo.
This is the first installment to my newest series “Tunnel Vision”. What I set out to accomplish with this mix was a taste of variety and to do something different from the cookie cutter, single genre trance, techno and psy-trance mixes I’ve heard in the past couple years. Something that would keep all listeners enjoying it and keep them captivated with the music regardless to what they consider there “primary” listening genre. I also set out to make something that would challenge the listener and my self but would also be fun to listen to. This was achieved by mixing in a less then common way, mixing intros over breakdowns, bass less entry, and some quick mixing but with the touch and emphasis of making it sound seamless. I hope to continue this series and show people a little of what I see and what I feel when I listen to these tracks individually, and the ideas that I get from the tracks of how to make a set that I would want to hear. I also wanted to share with the listener the vision and warm feelings I get from these tracks and genres in particular and share the same feelings I get from creating a set such as this. Enjoy.
